  • Notice to visitors ... A lovely amount of research goes into the construction of any work. Short stories and novels are no exception. I have made a spot of my research for Final Things available on this site. Where it is relevant, I have placed notices announcing bona fide data as opposed to good fiction, so students, opponents, and proponents of the death penalty may benefit from information and links. This site intends no opinion regarding the information, for it is essentially a site about storytelling ... and the stories, I assure you, are character-driven. I shall include a quote by Shadow in the Window editor Terri Spano: "If you look closely (at the magazine logo), you will note the shadow is inside the window. While strangers commit terrible and terrifying acts against strangers, there is far greater terror in the wrath of intimates, trusted persons both casual and official. The betrayal by these associations is the underbelly of true horror and the feral edge of society that cuts so vividly at our sense of wellbeing. Even so, I believe that within terror and tragedy something connects all of us inexorably to the light, the source, the force, whatever you want to call it ..."

I share my colleague's opinion that tragedy begets unknowable strength. My research has led to dark places, and so, I feel, will stories of crime, horror, desperation, and distress. Enter at your own risk!
